Controversy at Stanley Park’s Teahouse

The Teahouse in Vancouver’s Stanley Park has been the subject of controversy ever since the end of June, when a manager at the popular restaurant refused service to a customer wearing a red, pro-Trump “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat — and was fired for doing so.

The vice president of Human Resources for the Sequoia Group of Restaurants — which owns the Teahouse —
said that he was fired for violating the company’s “philosophy of tolerance” and non-discrimination. “We don’t discriminate against people based on political beliefs.”

So just who is the “tolerant” party here, and who is the “bigot”?!

Yet the Teahouse became the object of angry protests, threats, and calls for boycott in support of the intolerant fired manager.
When asked recently how the incident had affected the restaurant, the reply was that ‘it had been a difficult situation, and it had been slow for several days, but was picking up again’.  There was genuine appreciation expressed for the moral support shown by many patrons and members of the public.  So if you planning a celebratory lunch or dinner out in Vancouver, please make a conscious choice to consider the Tea House – and tell them why you are choosing them! We need to support businesses and companies that practice fairness and refuse to be bullied by political activists.
